I studied at the London School of Printing and Graphic Art achieving an Hons diploma in Art and Design. Through a career including membership and fellowship of two professional graphic design societies I came to own and creatively direct one of London’s premier design groups specialising in corporate design for some of the UK’s leading blue chip companies.

In 2002, at the age of fifty-nine, I retired leaving graphic design to a younger generation and taking a path long desired, to that of becoming an artist. In the time since this career move a considerable amount of interest has been expressed in my paintings with an exhibition in the West End of London and exhibitions in the south east as well as several commissions from private collections.

Living on the south coast of England, I am much influenced by the sea and sky that I see from my studio window. These elements are often exaggerated into fanciful storms which lash against an abstract structure or landscape.

The abstract cityscapes use precise small squares of colour and shade to produce an ethereal image of tall buildings, sometimes reflected in water. Inspiration has come from several visits to both New York and Hong Kong although it is stressed that these paintings are not representational but do give the essence of such cities.

Each square of colour is brushed in a direction, either horizontal or vertical, opposite to its neighbouring square, which gives an added dimension to the work. The paintings are bright and full of colour and give a modern dimension to contemporary environments.
