About your artinternet Gallery This information applies to all Standard and E-Commerce Galleries.
We believe that this new website offers a unique and unrivalled opportunity for artists, photographers and others to show and sell their work on the internet with the lowest possible running costs and no capital outlay. We can't say that your Gallery will instantly make you known to the 1.9 billion Internet users in the world or that you will suddenly start selling, but it will make you and your work instantly AVAILABLE to them and . . . as some one said- "You have to be in it to win it!"
Did you know that, unless you expressly agree to sell the copyright at the same time as the original, the copyright remains yours? This means that you don't have to stop selling prints because you sell the original and also that you can sell prints (if you have photographs) of originals you have already sold. If you are a sculptor, have you thought of selling prints/photographs of your work? Whatever you produce, if it can be photographed, it can be exhibited and sold on artinternet.net
1 | Your Exhibits For every 10 items you subscribe for, you can send 2 lots of images and information, eg 3 to start and 7 more later. If you wish to delete items for any reason, just send us an email listing the titles. There is no charge for this. If you wish to susbstitute one item for another we have to make a small charge of £1 each and to make the payment viable we ask that you buy a block of 5 substitutions for a one off payment of £5. There will soon be a "Substitute" link in the Exhibitors' Area to enable you to do this.
2 | Your Subscription Each subscription applies only to the items associated with it apart from as mentioned in 1 above. The minimum subscription period is 12 months. To cancel your subscription just send us an email request and we will cancel your automatic payment as soon as possible. Seven days notice is required so if a payment is due in that period the following payment due will be cancelled. Unless you expressly request us to remove your Gallery it will remain in place as long as avaialble space permits. If you have online sales, the same applies but your Buy Buttons will be deleted if your subscription is unpaid.
Photographing your Art If you're taking your own photographs for print and gallery use, you may find the following suggestions useful.
General | ||||
| Support the camera so that it does not move when you operate it, preferably on a tripod but any solid item will do. | |||
| Set the camera for highest quality, size and resolution. | |||
If the camera has a zoom lens, set the zoom about halfway, ie neither wide or tele, then move the camera until the image is within the frame. If necessary, make further adjustments until the edges of your subject are straight, not curved. Never use digital zoom.
| If your camera has a "sharpen" function, turn it off. | |||
| Outside in natural daylight is best but avoid direct sun light if possible. Using built-in flash can be difficult because the optimum distance to avoid distortion is usually too close to also avoid "flare" or a hotspot. If you can adjust the flash intensity, try to do so until the result is acceptable. | |||
When you have achieved a successfull result, make a note of the settings, positions of camera and subject etc. so that you can repeat the same procedure in the future.
Image File Sizes | ||||
| When taking photographs for printing or marketing use of any kind, it's a good idea to use the highest available quality and size settings to get the biggest possible file size. | |||
| Big files don't cost any more than small ones. You can always "downsample" a picture but "upsampling" is usually unsuccessful. In simple terms, whatever the biggest file size your camera can produce, that's the size you need. | |||
| Although the internet typically uses fairly small files of low resolution (72dpi) if you subsequently want to print an A2 poster by litho process for example, the file size required will probably be about that of your original, biggest file. | |||
| If you are going to re-size or modify in any way your images, always keep an un-modified copy of the original picture file using the "Save as" function or "Duplicate" to make a copy to modify. | |||
The images used in artinternet galleries are 518 x 518 pixels and a typical jpg file at these pixel dimensions (ie square) will be between 400kb and 900kb as a file on your computer.
If you're not sure about how to do any of this, just send us the original files from your camera.
It is possible to use a mobile telephone camera to make pictures to use in you Gallery. All the above information still applies. However, many phone cameras which can take up to "5 Megapixel" photographs apply very heavy compression to the image when it is saved resulting in loss of quality and unacceptable artefacts / sharpening effects when viewed or printed at larger sizes.

About Selling with artinternet Subscription prices for artinternet.net are very low and we don't charge any commission or fees for sales you make. This does mean that you are solely responsible for fulfilling orders you receive and dealing with your customers but it also means that you get to keep (almost*) all the money. When a customer clicks one of the Buy Buttons in your Gallery and you make a sale, automatic emails are sent to you and the customer confirming the transaction and giving you all the information you need to fulfil the order. You also receive an email from PayPal confirming that you have received the payment from your customer. To make all this work, you need a PayPal "Business" Account. You don't have to be a "Business" to do this and it's easy and completely free to sign up*.
The PayPal Sign Up Process When you click on "Sign Up" you will see a screen with 3 options. Click on the Get Started button under Business Account
| |||
On the next page select "Website Payments Standard"
| |||
On the next page you will see a form called "Business Information" Unless you actually are a Business, you can select "Individual" for Business Type. BUSINESS NAME Whatever other business or trading names you may have, it is essential that the name you enter here is identical (including initials etc.) to that of the Bank Account (ie, normally your own name) to which you will want to transfer your income from sales. This name is NOT your PayPal Login.
| |||
In the artinternet "Send Details" section, we need to know your PayPal login name (usually your email address, so not, as such, secret) to tell our server where to send payments from your customers. We will NEVER, by email or any other means ask for your PayPal password or other secret information or share your data with third parties. *PayPal make a small charge for transfers to your Bank Account and payments you receive.
Supplying the Order There are many suppliers of prints or you can produce them yourself if you are able to, but we suggest that you decide a few things first.
1 Size "Sheet size A3 297 x 420mm Image area 257 x up to 380mm. Where the original is smaller than this the image area will be as the original." This allows a 2cm border to your image and A3 frames are easily available and cheaper for your customers than special sizes. 2 Quality There is a big difference between a "Xerox" type colour copy and an archival inkjet (Giclée) print on coated art paper. Depending largely on type of paper, the cost of an A3 giclée print on Art Paper can be from £8 - £20. 3 Postage & Packing
